“We’re seeking a dynamic individual to join Carpenter’s Place, a non-profit organization dedicated to serving homeless adults. As the Director of Development and Community Engagement, you’ll play a pivotal role in our team, focusing on charitable fundraising and community outreach.”

The Director of Development and Community Engagement is a key leadership role on the Carpenter’s Place management team with primary responsibility for overseeing all charitable fundraising and community engagement. The overall responsibility is
1) Developing, implementing and accomplishing annual goals that include all charitable fund development strategies;
2) Recruit, engage, maintain, manage, track and recognize community mission partners for CP.

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Annual Giving and Individual Donor Development (30%):

  •  In collaboration with the Executive Director, develop an annual fund development plan with attainable goals and benchmarks, monitoring it throughout the year;
  • Execute strategy to help ensure all financial milestones are met, and if not meeting budget goals, review ways to raise more charitable financial support;
  • Review past strategy and process, update any process changes as needed and facilitate the Year Round and Double Dollar giving campaigns;
  • Utilize the donor database (DonorPerfect) to track and support all fund development activities. Establish, implement, and monitor procedures to ensure accuracy of database.

Special Events and Campaign Development (20%):
In conjunction with the Executive Director and Director of Operations, facilitate annual fundraising events:

  • Assist in recruiting a chair (co-chair) for any events;
  • Work with the Board to identify potential sponsors for the event;
  • Work with the Committee and Social Media Director to promote the event, as well as other needs to bring about a successful event:
  • Facilitate the annual luncheon.

Community Engagement (50%):

  • Maintain current mission partners through personal contact: phone calls, visits, notes, invitations for tours, speaking engagements, special recognition;
  • Identify and engage new mission partners through strategic efforts of outreach: mailings, phone calls, speaking engagements, agency tours, invitations to special events;
  • Maintain contact and activity information of existing and newly identified mission partners in Donor Perfect software platform:
  • Develop effective strategies to maintain contact and provide on-going forms of appreciation. This includes thank-you notes/letters, calls, mailings, visits, etc. Coordinate communication and recognition of donors to avoid duplication.

Essential characteristics of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervisory Responsibilities: This position does not provide primary supervision for another staff position. Supervision of volunteers assigned to projects overseen by this position.
  • Background Check and Drug Test: able to pass a background check and drug test.

  • Computer Skills: Working knowledge of Windows and Office; able to learn the Donor Perfect software within a month of hiring.
  • Education and/or Experience: Qualified candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree, relevant course of study, or equivalent experience. A minimum of 3-5 years of relevant work experience and a proven track record in fund raising is required. Previous work in a not-for-profit organization is a plus.
